The team at the centre uses modern and flexible medicine to ensure that the smallest humans can rise to the challenges of life without complications. The clinic birthing room has an intensive care place to look after premature and new-born babies; the perinatal intensive care unit is directly adjacent, which means that protracted transport to special incubators is unnecessary. Specially trained neonatologists are able to attend to the babies without delay. We have been extremely successful with methods of gentle neonatology, meaning that severe medical interventions are reduced to a minimum in favour of alternative methods. Physical closeness between the parents and the baby is of paramount importance to the development of premature babies, so we encourage direct contact from the first second. The paediatricians provide a welcoming atmosphere for mothers in the perinatal intensive care unit, for instance by assisting the mothers to nurse and bond (close physical contact) right from the beginning.
