Lung Network

Treating patients with pulmonary diseases is a growing challenge for the healthcare system in Germany. Estimates by the World Health Organization suggest that pulmonary diseases will be the third most frequent cause of death by 2020.

Patients suffering from lung diseases have been treated jointly by the Fachkrankenhaus Coswig and Klinikum Görlitz since early 2017 on the basis of a cooperation agreement. Within the framework of the medical-structural collaboration, Klinikum Görlitz pools its competencies as a specialist hospital with those contributed by Fachkrankenhaus Coswig. As a certified competence centre for thorax surgery and a certified lung cancer centre, Fachkrankenhaus Coswig is one of Germany's pre-eminent establishments in the treatment of pulmonary diseases. It founded the Competence Network for Lung Diseases (KoLE e.V.). This ensures excellent care close to the patients' homes. Modern communications technology is used to bridge the distance between the clinics. Patients therefore benefit from high-quality and efficient treatment.
